What a party!
Despite a forecast of rain, LiU employees flocked to the festival area in the University Park – and to LiU’s first all-uni party in memory, our 40th anniversary.
The entire University Park was transformed into a festival area, including tents, stages, portable toilets and all the other classic components. The University Leadership welcomed guests at the entrance before steering them towards the photography area.
After a good mingle, a glass of bubbly and some entertainment from LiThe Blås, Camilla Smedberg and Roger Klinth, the two MCs, took charge of the stage – dressed in the very best of 1975 fashion. Vice-Chancellor Helen Dannetun greeted everyone welcome, all 2,200 of them.
Honorary Doctor Jonas Gardell took the stage, just as the skies opened and the rain we had been promised made its entrance. But the audience was prepared. Rain ponchos went on, umbrellas went up, some guests went to the tents. But the downpour eased as it was time for the buffet, when it was the caterers’ time to shine, feeding over 2,000 guests with hardly a single queue.
Musical duo Peter and Matilda got the guests dancing to the tunes of Dolly Parton and Queen. After that performance, everyone must have been warm again. Or they simply didn’t mind, and continued to the tent where the dance-hungry guests were kept dancing by 7Souls, fortified by LiU employees Heather Forsyth and Anders Carlsson.
What a party it turned out to be! The 40-year-old university could not have been celebrated in a better way. There are already rumours going round of a follow-up: LiU 41 years?
