Further limitations on the campuses
In an email to LiU’s students, the crisis management group describes signals that suggest that increasing numbers of students are returning to campus and failing to observe social distancing. For this reason, further restrictions are being introduced with respect to opening hours and accessibility.
The crisis management group at LiU has decided that all premises on campus will be open to students during office hours only (7.45 am-5.00 pm weekdays), starting on Monday 27 April. The number of open toilets will be reduced, and limitations will be set on the number of people who may be present in the student kitchens at any one time.
As the email puts it: “The situation is troublesome at the moment and will probably be so for a long time”. It encourages students to be considerate of others, such as those who belong to a risk group or have relatives who do. The email will be sent to all students on Friday 24 April.
“It is important that we managers and co-workers set a good example and follow the advice from the Public Health Agency of Sweden and the Swedish government about keeping the restrictions going and keeping our distance. If we manage to do this together, we hope that we will not need to take further measures”, says team leader Joakim Nejdeby.

Keep it up, keep your distance and show consideration
To our students at LiU – we have something serious to discuss with you
We are currently experiencing something that none of us – not in the world, in Sweden or at LiU – could have prepared for. Everything suddenly has to take place at a distance. Student life has come screeching to a halt. Everyone has reorganised their life according to recommendations from the Public Health Agency of Sweden and the Swedish government. Or have they?
It has become clear that increasing numbers of students are choosing to return to campus after some weeks in isolation. There are queues in the student kitchens, and the toilet paper and soap are starting to run out in the toilets. The co-workers who come into contact with students feel anxious that daily life is starting to return to normal, even though we are far from seeing the end of the epidemic.
For this reason, LiU has decided that
- Starting 27 April, the campuses will be open for students during office hours only (7.45 am-5.00 pm) weekdays. University premises will be closed at all other times. And students are only permitted to visit the LiU premises if it is absolutely necessary.
- The number of open toilets will be further reduced to avoid the spread of infection in these locations.
- A limit will be imposed on the number of people who may be present at any one time in the student kitchens. Distance markers will be set for queues, etc., to decrease the density of folk on campus.
The situation is troublesome at the moment, and will probably be so for a long time. This is also a time when we can be considerate of others, for example those among us who belong to a risk group or have relatives that do. Meet your friends, but follow the recommendations of the Public Health Agency when you do so.
Thank you for acting responsibly, today and in the future!
Keep it up, keep going, and keep your distance – everywhere and always! If we are all considerate of each other, we will get through this.
