Requirements profile for new vice-chancellor finalised

The advertisement for one of the most exciting leadership positions in Sweden will soon be published – vice-chancellor at Linköping University. At a meeting on Wednesday, the University Board set out the requirements profile that is to apply when recruiting a successor to Vice-Chancellor Helen Dannetun.

Bild: Lena Sommestad, ordförande universitetsstyrelsenA fundamental requirement to be appointed as vice-chancellor of a university, according to the Higher Education Ordinance, is qualification as professor or senior lecturer. In addition, the requirements emphasise that a future vice-chancellor must have experience of leading and developing large and complex organisations, must be well grounded in the Swedish and international academic world, and must have excellent skills in improving external collaboration, both in Sweden and abroad.

“LiU is a broad university with many different environments that are to be attractive to students, teachers, researchers and other employees. We are looking for a vice-chancellor with the ability to take LiU forwards and represent all parts of the university”, says chair of the board Lena Sommestad, who is leading the recruitment process.

“We offer one of Sweden’s most exciting leadership positions – head of a modern and dynamic university with innovative education, boundary-spanning and internationally renowned research, and extensive collaboration with other actors in society. Anyone who is interested in applying should express their interest”, says Lena Sommestad.

The announcement will be published soon, and applications will be accepted until the end of November.

“We will be supported during the recruitment selection process by the Michaël Berglund AB consultancy, which has extensive experience of vice-chancellor recruitment for Swedish institutions of higher education. We are confident that Michaël Berglund AB will make a valuable contribution to the process”, says Pia Rundgren, director of human resources.

Candidates will be selected for interview during December, and a subsequent selection will choose the candidates for hearings.

Hearings will take place with four consultation groups: students/doctoral students, teachers, other employees, and the academic and administrative management. Consultation groups will be convened during December for initial discussions in preparation for the hearings, which are scheduled for February 2020.
