Where to eat in Studenthuset
A major culinary attraction, Fresh Market by Östgöta Kök, will soon open in Studenthuset. The building is also home to Byttan, a spin-off from Café Baljan, and a new student kitchen with many microwaves.
Fresh Market by Östgöta Kök is on the ground floor, straight ahead and tucked in under the terraced seating. Every day, it will serve up a vegetarian buffet with both hot and cold dishes. Customers take the amount they want, and the price is determined by the weight.
In addition, the restaurant will offer a fixed-price non-vegetarian dish of the day.
What is special about Fresh Market by Östgöta Kök is that it has its own bakery and bakers to bake bread, cakes and vegan Swedish fika. And they use only high-quality raw materials: factory-made food is completely banned. The restaurant will eventually offer catering services.
The idea is that it should be possible to take the food from the restaurant and eat it anywhere in Studenthuset. Collection units for dirty crockery and cutlery will be distributed around the building on all levels, making it easy to get rid of used dishes. The food is also suitable for take-away. There aren’t many seats in the restaurant, around 30.
- The restaurant starts on a low key with a buffet on 23 August, and will increase to its full range of services the following week.
- Opening hours: Monday-Friday 8.00 am-4.00 pm. Lunch is served between 11.00 am and 2.00 pm.
The section-run café Baljan, which until now has been limited to a site in Kårallen, is now opening a spin-off in Studenthuset. This is “Byttan” and is also located on the ground floor.
It is based on the same concept of economy as Baljan, with coffee and a sweet treat. You can put SEK 300 onto your LiU Card, which can then be used to purchase 60 cups of coffee, served in your own mug.
Opening hours: Monday-Friday 8.00 am-4.15 pm.
For those who prefer to bring their own food from home, a student kitchen is available with 24 microwave ovens, right next to Östgöta Kök.
The restaurant in Zenit has closed. This building will be refurbished to become a base for the university’s work with collaboration, and is expected to be complete in the autumn of 2020.
