P-O Brehmer appointed deputy vice-chancellor for research
The university management will gain a new deputy vice-chancellor on 15 August. On that date, Per-Olof Brehmer takes over responsibility for research.
“Per-Olof Brehmer is a highly qualified manager with long experience and a broad understanding of the opportunities and challenges we face in the field of research”, says Vice-Chancellor Helen Dannetun.
Per-Olof Brehmer came to Linköping University as a doctoral student in 1995 and became head of department at the Department of Management and Engineering in 2006. His research has primarily focussed on the management of knowledge-intensive multinational organisations.
“Of course, I’m extremely pleased that the vice-chancellor has asked me, and to know that she believes that I can contribute to making research at LiU even better. It’s going to be exciting and great fun to take on the new role”, says P-O Brehmer.
One of the major challenges facing research is to create the conditions required for financing and development of the infrastructure. Many areas of research are becoming evermore dependent on, for example, expensive equipment, and such investment must increasingly be made without the aid of external sources of funding. Another challenge is to secure the quality of research and ensure that scientific results and data are open and available to both other researchers and the general public.
“We are a large and broad university, and we must continuously deliver high-quality research. The confidence of the general public in us remains high, but quality assurance is becoming increasingly important”, P-O Brehmer concludes.
