Fewer parking places during SOF
The Student Orchestra Festival (SOF) is approaching. This year, for the first time, it will be open to the public. The event may affect accessibility to Campus Valla.
The Student Orchestra Festival, or SOF, is the university’s largest student event and the organisers tell us it will not pass unnoticed. This year, the event will take place over the Ascension Day holiday weekend, 14-17 May, but the preparations start much earlier.
The festival site is behind Fysikhuset Building and B Building and in the large car park by entrance 2 behind Zenit Building. SOF will be making use of this area 9-22 May.
This means that the car park behind Building B will be closed 9-22 May. The car park by entrance 2 will re-open on 16 May.
The organisers have promised not to play music during the time the stages are being built. The orchestras will begin playing after 18:00 on Thursday and Friday.
The parade building work will take place in the car park at Märkesbacken. This car park will be closed 4-16 May. The organisers have agreed only to play the festival music sporadically.
The main problem is likely to be the shortage of parking spaces. The best idea is to leave your car at home where possible. But seeing as it is the Ascension Day holiday, many staff will be off work.
In addition, there will be many visitors to the university during those days. The organisers promise there will be many student helpers on hand to make sure everything runs smoothly.
One change from previous years is that the area will be open to the public, with free entry on Thursday and Friday between 14:00 and 18:00. All members of staff, family and friends are welcome.
