If the worst happens – what to do when the alarm goes

All operations must establish routines that describe what to do in the event of an alarm, fire or gas leak.

These routines are to be based on an organisation in which an evacuation coordinator/evacuation commander has been appointed to lead operations if the alarm is sounded.

Anyone who needs help in the establishment of these routines may approach the support officers whose names are stated under the section entitled Support to operations on the first page of the Fire Prevention Chapter.

Evacuation from lecture halls

As there are no heads of operations in lecture halls and similar spaces, an Evacuation Commander must lead operations in the event of the alarm sounding. Everyone in these spaces must evacuate when the alarm sounds and reconvene at a stated assembly point. The Evacuation Commander determines the assembly point and, unless otherwise stated, the person holding the lecture always becomes the Evacuation Commander.

In KLARA (chemical handling system) there is information on chemical products and safety datasheets that can be downloaded. There are also risk assessment templates.

Flammable goods in laboratories must be handled in accordance with this information from Swedish Civil Contingency Agency (in Swedish).
