General fire prevention regulations
Hot works at temporary workplaces
People carrying out what is termed "hot works at temporary workplaces” must have completed the relevant training for this process. At US, all such works must be ordered via the operational contractor. Hot works include welding, soldering, cutting and other works that generate heat or sparks.
Naked flames (candles, t-lights)
Candles must be used with great care. They may not be placed in lamps or on easily-combustible candle-holders. Lighted candles may never be left unsupervised. Please Note! The person who lit the candle must also make sure it is extinguished.
Electrical equipment
Electrical equipment that may cause ignition must be placed in such a manner as to minimise risk of fire. Coffee machines, cooking plates and similar electrical apparatus must be equipped with timers.
Inflammable and easily combustible goods (liquids, corrugated cardboard and cardboard boxes)
Inflammable liquids (disinfectants, oils, spirits, windscreen washer fluid etc.) must be managed in accordance with County Council guidelines for handling of inflammable goods. (Please also refer to the special section of the Safety Manual).
Combustible material such as recycling paper, classified papers, cardboard, corrugated cardboard, clothes and bed linen may not be stored in general communication spaces such as stairwells, culverts, corridors or other spaces to which the general public has access.
Florescent tubes
Florescent tubes and similar devices must be checked on a regular basis in order to take action against any blinking or broken tubes. In County Council-owned property, fault reporting takes place through the FIXA system while at the University's other campuses, the head of each individual operation is responsible for taking the necessary measures.
Guidance
On the website of the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency there is information on the regulations , as wells as guidelines, that apply within the fire prevention field (in Swedish).
In KLARA (chemical handling system) there is information on chemical products and safety datasheets that can be downloaded. There are also risk assessment templates.
Flammable goods in laboratories must be handled in accordance with this information from Swedish Civil Contingency Agency (in Swedish).
