Spring is finally here, which among other things mean that the spring call for travel grants for young researchers from KAW is open. A selection of other calls which are open during the spring is available at our webpage – at the page with Swedish funders and in the excel file Calls 2018.

During this spring Elina Hjertström and Agneta Jansson, Research Coordinators at Grants Office will visit coffee rooms at Campus US and in Norrköping to talk about research funding within medicine and health. The first coffee break will be at Floor 12 in House 511 at Campus US on the 19th of April. Find our more here: LÄNK. In March Lukasz Slusarski from Research Professional visited Campus Valla where he held a presentation about the database that includes funding opportunities from over 8000 funders. Did you miss the seminar? No worries – Grants Office offers introductions for researchers, research groups and departments. It is also possible to attend any of Research Professional’s official webinars. Please contact grantsoffice@liu.se for further information!

In short ...

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDRP)
Awaiting supplementary national legislation based on the EU's new data protection regulation (GDRP) a project is underway at LiU defining how researchers and other employees will relate to the new regulation, which will come into force on 25 May this year. Information about the central work is available in Swedish here. Information in English about the GDRP is available via the Commission here.

In addition to the final financing reporting, Formas will now request annual financial reporting for grants with dnr 2017-00335 (Annual Open Call 2017) or higher. This only applies if the project duration is at least 18 months.

The Swedish Research Council
We would also like to remind you about the new directions from The Swedish Research Council concerning publications lists in applications. The publications list of the project leader has a maximum of five pages, and the maximum of allowed pages for participating researcher is one page.

Horizon 2020
There has also been a change of rules concerning page break of the proposal cover page in relation with the page limit in applications within SC1 (Horizon 2020 Societal Challenges 1: Health, demographic change and wellbeing). Applicants are now allowed to remove the page break in the cover page of the template for the technical annex, i.e. the proposal text can start on the cover page.

the Grants Office team:  Meet our new science writer and returing research coordinator

We are happy to announce that the Grants Office team is now complete after a period of recruitments and parental leaves.

Research Coordinator Elina Hjertström is back after her parental leave and Agneta Janson who has been substitute Research Coordinator during Elinas absence will remain as a Research Coordinator at Grants Office.

Josefin FerniusJosefin Fernius is our newly recruited Research Coordinator and Science Writer. Josefin has a PhD in Molecular Cell Biology from the University of Edinburgh, and has over 10 years of research experience from different research fields. The objective of her first Postdoc, which also took place in Edinburgh, was to understand the molecular mechanisms regulating chromosome segregation during cell division. Between 2012 and 2018 she was part of Stefan Thor’s group at Linköping University studying neurodegeneration and Alzheimer’s disease, where her focus was to understand protein aggregation and neurotoxicity. Josefin looks forward to working together with researchers at Linköping University to increase their chances of receiving funding from external funding organizations, such as the European Research Council.

get an overview of granted projects

Do you want to know which projects that has been granted funding within a certain call? This is now made possible with a new feature in Research Professional called Awards. There are only a limited number of funders visible, but they include the European Research Council, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, The Swedish Research Council and Vinnova. The statistics goes back to 2008, but will keep backtracking and the number of funders included will increase. You will find this new feature under “Awards” in the main menu in Research Professional. Find out more at researchprofessional.com, and do not hesitate to contact Grants Office for additional support.

Research Professional is an extensive database with funding opportunities from national and international funders, which anyone employed by LiU can access. Grants Office are happy to assist both individual researchers as well as research teams and departments to get started using Research Professional.

take a closer look at the fp7 projects at liu

LiU participated in over 120 projects during the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), both as coordinator and partner. The majority of them are completed, but some are still running. In 2015 we gathered them all in the book Seventh Framework Programme - Research Acticities (2007-2013) Linköping University. Apart from project descriptions the book contains information about the framework programme as well as details on LiU:s participation. You can find the book online at our webpage. If you like a printed version of the book, please contact grantsoffice@liu.se and we will send you one by internal mail.
